Karen Gustafson

Karen is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) and a National Board-Certified Counselor (NCC). She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Southwest Missouri State University, in Springfield, MO and obtained her Master of Science Degree in Clinical Counseling from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. With over 30 years of clinical work, both non-licensed then licensed, Karen works with all ages from adolescents to seniors.


She has been a parent educator and consultant for over 25 years, teaching Parenting the Love and Logic WayTM, The Nurturing Parent, and Boys Town’s Common-Sense Parenting. Karen has been a member of the Nebraska Medical Reserve Corp. (MRC) for 18 years, trained in Behavioral Health Crisis Debriefing; and a trained trainer for Psychological First Aid. In addition, she has lent her time to FRST (First Responder Support Team) as an educational trainer and therapist, and to the American Red Cross for behavioral health support and counseling. Karen most recently left an Executive Director position at a local non-profit agency, but throughout her 22 years there, always continued to be
an active therapist. Karen has been a mentor to youth in both the Big Brother/Big Sister organization and with Tom
Osborne’s Teammates Mentoring Program.


She is a current member of the Metro Area Suicide Coalition through The Kim Foundation; and, most
importantly, a mother of two adult sons and the wife of a 30-year veteran educator.
